ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED is a common Chrome error that users experience at random. Sometimes this error affects multiple websites while other times, it targets only specific websites. Regardless, this error prevents websites from loading and no amount of refreshing the page helps. Here are a few things you can try and one of them should resolve the problem.
Run the following checks before you try any of the solutions listed below;
- Load the website in a different browser like Firefox or Edge
- Check if you’re connected to the internet or not by visiting a different website or by pinging a website from the Command Prompt. Example: run this command; ping www.google.com
- Check if the website is up and running by entering its URL in Down For Everyone Or Just Me
- Check that you’ve entered the correct URL
- Refresh the page using the Ctrl+F5 keyboard shortcut
- If you’ve manually specified a DNS service for your connection, try pinging it to see if it’s working. Alternatively, remove the service for a while to see if that fixes the problem. Try using Google DNS instead.
From the above list, if items 1, 2, and 3 fail, the problem might not be with Chrome. It might be your internet connection or the website itself might be experiencing trouble.
Disable Prediction Service
Open Chrome’s settings from the overflow button at the top right. Scroll all the way to the end and click ‘Advanced Settings. Under the Privacy group of settings, look for the option “Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly” and turn it off. Refresh/reload the page to see if the ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED error is gone.
Flush Chrome DNS
Open a new tab in Chrome and enter the following in the address bar;
On the page that opens, click the ‘Clear host cache’ button to flush the Chrome DNS cache.
Restart Your PC
This is worth a try in most cases so go ahead and restart your system. You can try closing and opening Chrome again before you restart your system and see if that alone is enough.
Go to your router and hold down the power button for ten seconds, and then release it. Wait for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Connect to your network again, and see if the website loads.
Try A Different Network
If available, try connecting to a different network and see if you can access the website. If you don’t have an alternative connection that you can use, try using a VPN service temporarily and check if the website loads. If it does, it’s possible the website you’re visiting is being blocked by your ISP or on a country level.
