A Minecraft house or a base is essential for your survival in the game. It’s normally where you move your spawn point, keep materials that you’re collecting, and where you craft, brew, or enchant items. You may, or may not create a Nether portal near it but having a spot to return to, and a place that can keep out monsters is crucial.

A Minecraft house can be simple i.e., a cube with a door and a window, or it can be complex with several floors, rooms, windows, a skylight, and even a waterfall if you’re feeling ambitious. You can use all types of blocks to create a Minecraft house. Some blocks are better than others at protecting you from monsters while others look better aesthetically.

If you’re new to Minecraft, and still learning to work with all the blocks, it’s best to start out with easier homes. Here are ten awesome yet easy Minecraft house ideas.

1. Survivalist Farm House

We recommend this design for beginners. It’s easy to make with common materials like wood and cobblestone, and it’s easy to expand on. You can add more rooms to the design and they won’t look out of place. You also have farming space available and an easy way to get to it without leaving the house or travelling at night. Make sure you keep it well.

2. Oak & Spruce wood by Smithers Boss

If you want something that’s easy to build, and pretty to look at, this house is worth checking out. It is built using mostly wood which is one of the most common block types in Minecraft. You can build it with different types of wood but oak and dark oak look best. There are also other blocks used e.g. cobblestone and glass but they’re easy to find or craft. 

The only downside to this house is that it is mostly wood and will be easily damaged by mobs. In the image below, special shaders have been used so your house will look different depending on the shaders you’ve installed.

3. Stylish and Compact by CSX42

The Stylish and Compact design by CSX42 is a modern yet small house that has room for a bed, a crafting table, and chest. It is built with basic blocks like wood and stone slabs. As you build it, you will also learn a thing or two about creating a good looking house. The tutorial includes ideas for making stacked chests easily accessible and how using different block types adds aesthetics to a build. There are also ideas for expanding the house when you need to.

4. Single large room

The houses on this list have been small which means you don’t have to gather a lot of resources to start building. If you’d like to build something bigger, but still keep it simple, we recommend checking out this simple house design by Stud. The hardest material to get for this build is the stone slab stairs which can be made easily from cobblestone. You will need coal to smelt it all (or you can use wood but it will take longer) and you end up with a lot of space. You can divide the house (add rooms) if you want by building walls. The decor is left to you which means this is a flexible design.

It will take some time to build this but you’ll like what you end up with.

5. A sturdy stone house by Instructables

If you do not want a house made of wood given that is far less likely to withstand damage, this basic stone house is worth building. It requires commonly available blocks like stone, and it still adds a few block variations to make the final build look good i.e., not just a stone cube. 

The house is fairly big and you will be able to use it for quite a while before you decide to upgrade. It’s also not the sort of house you feel bad about leaving behind because you put so much work into it.

6. Simple Starter House by Sv Gravity

The Simple Starter House by Sv Gravity features a stone base, commonly available wood blocks, an attached farm, two floors, plenty of space, and a nice view.

You won’t be able to build this house in a day so make sure you have a place to spend the night while you build but it’s definitely worth the time spent. The materials are easy to get. You can design the interior any way you want and you can skip the lantern in favor of torches.

7. Simple Birch Starter House by Folli

The Simple Birch Starter House by Folli is built predominantly with birch which is one of the most common wood types. You need a good axe to get the wood and a little time to build the house but it is big, beautiful, and has space for a farm.

You can skip pots and lanterns until you have the clay and iron to make them. The house will provide shelter and a place to keep your supplies, crafting table, furnace, and a few bookshelves. 

8. Tree house by TSMC – Minecraft

Tree house by TSMC – Minecraft offers a unique, quick house design for beginners. The resources you gather are minimal and easily available. You can use any type of tree/wood that you want and, if you’re up for a little trial and error, you can create a second floor in this design. 

9. Small, modern, two-floor house

This is easily one of the more complicated builds and its resources will take some time to gather but if you want a big-ish house that is sturdy check out this design by WiederDude. 

The house has two floors, and a pool. You can change it up and turn the area for the pool into an easily accessible farm. What makes this house difficult to craft is its use of concrete, specifically white concrete which requires bonemeal. You will need to kill a few skeletons for it. Alternatively, you can create smooth stone blocks and use them in its place. The house may not look as good but it’s still a great design.

10. Modern house by RainbowGamerPE

The Modern house by RainbowGamerPE features concrete so it is, again, not the easiest to build however, concrete can be replaced with smooth stone. You will need a considerable amount of coal to do all this but the house is large and you may never move out of it. You will need to gather quite a bit of wood and sand but they occur commonly enough to not be a big deal.

The build also uses birch wood which is common, and black glass panes which require black dye. Again, you can use ordinary, colorless glass. The design is pretty good and will allow you to play with material variations easily.
