How To Install The Kids Cave Kodi Addon
The new Kids Club addon is available on the Gentec repository. This relatively new source for addons has already spawned the Rogue addon which we have already reviewed. That one incorporated some of Kids Cave into its all-in-one offerings, but the full addon is well-worth downloading as there is lots to explore.
Find out more about that below, but for now, here is our simple step-by-step guide on how to download and install the Kids Cave Kodi addon from the Gentec Repository onto your Kodi system:
- Open Kodi and click on the Settings icon. This resembles a gear wheel and is located in the top left of the screen.
- Click the File Manager tab which is located at the bottom of the screen, and then double-click on Add Source which is on the left-hand side of your screen.
- In the pop-up box called Add File Source which appears, click where it says <None> and then enter the following URL exactly: https://gen-tec.co/gentecwiz. Click OK and then give this new source a name, such as GenTec, before clicking OK again.
- Now return to the Kodi home page and this time click on Addons.
- Next, click on the Addon Browser icon, which resembles an open box and can be found in the top left of the screen.
- Click on Install from zip file, then select Gentec, followed by NEW REPO FOR GENTEC WIZARD and click on a file called repository.gentec.x.x.zip. Click OK and this will install the Gentec repository onto Kodi.
- Now return to the Addon browser menu and click Install from repository. Then scroll down the page to find the Gentec repository.
- Open it and then click Video addons, you will see the Kids Cave addon listed about halfway down. Click on it and then click Install and the addon will be downloaded and installed onto your Kodi. You will again receive a notification in the top right of the screen when it has been installed successfully.
- Go back to the Kodi home screen and click on Add-ons again. The Kids Club addon will now be listed under Video Addons and is ready to use.
Full Addon Review
Kodi users who like to let their kids dabble in family-friendly content online tend to seek out dedicated apps. This is because while all-in-one addons can offer a decent selection of kids content, curiosity can often get the better of little fingers and it can be all too easy for them to come across something rather less suitable than Spongebob Squarepants. There are a few decent addons out there that specialise in kid’s content right now, but no real standout addons, which is why there is plenty of room in the market for something like Kids Cave.
Created by the Gentec team, this recent addon has a lot to offer and it does so effectively. The developers are clearly conscious that there is not just a single children’s entertainment market and have made some effort to break their menus up by age ranges. It is a good idea and something they could arguably go even further with. When you first open up the Kids Cave addon, you are confronted with a large multicoloured main menu which clearly lists the content available on the addon. To help you find your way around, we shall quickly outline the content available on each one:
In the rush to add as much video content as possible, many children’s addon overlook audiobooks. But they remain hugely popular with kids of all ages and it is a masterstroke of the developers to include them here. This menu allows you to choose from their three lists of audio books or go directly to the Dr Seuss selection. The lists are fairly random, but do include a quick summaries of the story as well as their running time.
Toddler – Young Kids TV Shows
As the menu tab makes clear, this will take you to the Kids Cave selection of content for younger viewers. The appropriate age range will depend on the individual kids of course. The section is a little limited and is again offered in no obvious order. But there are plenty of the most popular TV shows for younger viewers including such gems as Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Paw Patrol.
Teen TV Shows
This is the place that older children to find all of their favourite TV shows. There is a great selection here, but parents beware. There are a few shows whose suitability for even the oldest of teenagers could be questioned. Can Breaking Bad really be thought of as a teen kids show?
A simple option which does exactly what it says it will. Users will open up a long list of cartoons to enjoy at their leisure including all the classics such as Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes, and the Flintstones.
This section doesn’t offer as much as it might. There is a short selection of movie franchises listed which open up to offer each movie made to date. There are plenty of titles missing from the list, but to give the developers some credit, many of these are hopefully to be added at some point in the future.
This section offers a long list of family-friendly movie titles suitable for kids of all ages. Parents of younger kids will probably want to supervise this section as some content is for a slightly more mature audience, but there is still plenty available to keep everyone happy.
Disney Classic Collection
Disney fans are well catered for in this addon, with what appears to us to be the full range of Disney films available to enjoy. Where you are after a vintage classic or something from their more recent canon, Kids Cave should have it available.
Likewise, their Dreamworks Animations selection appears to be complete with a multitude of movies available to view.
Pixar has completely revolutionised family movies and produced a string of classic films and franchises that kids of all ages love. And Kids Cave has them all available to view right here.
Given the lack of order most of the Kids Cave content is provided in, this feature is an important one. If there is a specific movie you are looking for, this is the place to come.
TV Show Search
For the same reason, users looking for a specific TV show will be pleased to find a search feature that works for this content too.
The Kids Cave Kodi addon has an awful lot going for it. But there are still a few areas where the developers could make easy-to-implement improvements which would vastly improve the usability. The addon does warn that each menu tab will load slowly the first time you click on it. They are not wrong. This is a common feature with many Kodi addons but was especially noticeable with Kids Cave. However, to their credit, once you have got a menu tab open, the whole thing does speed up considerably and slow loading is not a problem from that point on. But first time out, patience is definitely needed.
For an app to be easy to use, it is vital that it is easy to navigate to the content you are looking for. This requires two things in most Kodi addons: a clearly labelled menu and an easily searched list of content. Kids Cave can definitely offer the former but lets itself down badly with the latter. Submenu options with titles like List One, List Two, and List Three offer no hint as to what they might contain. And inside these lists come a random series of content which isn’t broken down by genre, or alphabetised, or anything. This makes finding specific content hugely frustrating at times. It is a simple issue to fix, but it is a great pity the developers didn’t address it in the first place.
When it comes to actually playing content on Kids Cave, the user experience is a pretty positive one. Users do not have to try and choose specific streams, but rather just select the quality of playback they want. Content then generally loads pretty quickly and in our testing, the quality of playback always matched the description we selected. We also didn’t come across any broken links which is a great bonus in any Kodi addon.
There is definitely a gap in the market for a top-quality dedicated children’s addon at the moment. Kids Cave has the potential to be the one to fill that gap, but it doesn’t quite hit the heights yet. The range of content and playback experience is extensive. But navigating around the addon can be extremely frustrating and it is only the inclusion of an effective search facility that saves it in this regard. It can also be slow at times too, but once you actually find what you are after, it becomes easy to use and offers high-quality streams. The developers do not need to do much to make this into a really top-drawer kids addon. It’s not quite there yet. But is still worth downloading if you have kids of any age who like to stream content online.
How did you find the Kids Cave Kodi addon? Did its lack of easily navigable menus frustrate you? Did you think there were any glaring omissions to the content lists?
