Kodi has many great features, but let’s be honest, the reason most people are using it is to stream media content. Kodi is an open-source media player, and this has allowed external developers to create a plethora of add-ons which can be used to access just about any movie, TV series, or live sports event you can think of. These unofficial add-ons are the reason why Kodi has become a global phenomenon, and Live Tube is the latest of these to be making serious waves in the Kodi Community.
As you may have guessed from the name, Live Tube is powered by YouTube. We’ve all watched videos on YouTube before, which is why its official add-on is one of the most popular in the Kodi Repository. Live Tube is a bit different, however; it harnesses the often-overlooked live streaming channels on YouTube to great effect, and makes content easier to search and view than ever before.
Before You Download: Get a Good VPN
While both the Kodi media player and the Live Tube add-on are completely legal and above-board to use, you’ll still want to make use of a VPN when using these services. Kodi’s open-source architecture allows third-party developers to create all types of add-ons–some of which do indeed grant users access to restricted content. ISPs and copyright holders are thus wary of Kodi traffic, and may preemptively warn or even fine you for streaming even legal content.
A good VPN will anonymise your traffic, making it impossible for prying eyes to see what you are doing. There are many to choose from, and we’ve tried them all. Our recommendation for the best VPN to protect Kodi users is based on the following criteria:
- Fast connection speeds
- Strong encryption
- No-logging policy
- Many proxy servers located in multiple countries
- Unlimited bandwidth, no restrictions on traffic type
- Software support for the most popular devices
The best VPN for Kodi: IPVanish
Without a doubt, the best VPN available to Kodi users is IPVanish. After testing out its rivals, we can confidently say no other service strikes just the same balance between features, security, performance and price. With 256-bit AES encryption, over 40,000 shared IP addresses available, 850 servers in 60 countries, strict no-logging policy, DNS leak protection and an automatic kill switch, you’ll never have to worry about third parties snooping in on your activity online. IPVanish also features a slick, lightweight app on most major platforms, including the popular-among-Kodi-users Amazon Fire TV stick. Most importantly, this VPN provides a lightning-fast connection that keeps your HD and 4K streams running smooth and buffer-free.
IPVanish offers a 7-day money back guarantee which means you have a week to test it risk-free. Please note that Addictive Tips readers can save a massive 60% here on the IPVanish annual plan, taking the monthly price down to only $4.87/mo.
TV Addons – A Note of Caution
The new Live Tube add-on is currently only available from the TV Addons repository. For a long time, TV Addons Fusion repository was the biggest and most popular repository for Kodi users and carried all the most popular add-ons. However, during the crackdown on Kodi add-ons earlier this year, the TV Addons website and repository went offline.
It has recently returned, but there is a lot of skepticism in the Kodi community about who is behind the new website. This is because it has been widely reported that the TVAddons domains have been transferred to a Canadian law firm, DrapeauLex, which has been closely linked to related copyright infringement cases. The return of the TVAddons repository and Indigo tool is, therefore, being treated with caution by Kodi users. There are legitimate fears that it could be a honeytrap exercise to entice Kodi users to incriminate themselves.
The Live Tube add-on is completely legal to use and there is, therefore, no obvious reason why Kodi users should worry about downloading it. But it is possible that it contains spyware which could try to monitor your activity on other Kodi add-ons. It is therefore strongly recommended that users who do download Live Tube avoid using other add-ons which could be illegal. It is also essential to use a VPN at all times.
How to Install Live Tube Add-on
With Kodi safely downloaded onto your device, you are ready to start to install add-ons and enjoying the world of entertainment the platform offers. While official add-ons can be downloaded easily from the official Kodi repository, unofficial add-ons need to be downloaded from unofficial repositories. The Live Tube add-on can be found in the Fusion Repository (see above for more information about this repository).
To download Live Tube and other unofficial add-ons, you will first need to enable Kodi to download software from external sources. You can do this using the following simple steps:
- Open Kodi and click on the Systems icon, which looks like a gear icon and can be found in the top left of the screen.
- Go to System Settings > Add-ons
- Toggle the slider next to “Unknown sources”. This will enable you to download them.
- Accept the pop-up warning message that follows.
With that, you are all set to download the Live Tube add-on. This is a slightly longer process but no less simple if you follow this step-by-step guide:
- Open Kodi and click on the Systems icon.
- Go to File Manager > Add Source.
- Click on the URL bar in the center of the screen, which says <none> and type in the following URL exactly – http://fusion.tvaddons.co
- Add a name, such as .fusion, for the repository in the text box below. Then click OK.
- Return to the Kodi main menu and select Add-ons then the open box icon at the top of the menu on the left-hand side of the page.
- Click on Install from Zip File, then select .fusion > kodi-repos > english > repository.xbmchub-x.x.x.zip.
- Once the repository has installed, a notification will appear in the top right of the screen.
- Go back to the Add-ons menu again and click the open box icon again.
- This time click on Install from repository > TVADDONS.CO Add-on Repository > Video Addons > Live Tube > Install.
- You will need to wait for the confirmation notification again but once you see it the Live Tube add-on should be available to use in your add-on library.

Live Tube Add-on Review
Live Tube is a new Kodi add-on, so it is early days to offer too much judgement on its merits or otherwise. It was created by TVAddons.co, which you can read more about above. They have a strong record of developing hugely successful add-ons in the past, but there are some doubts about their latest incarnation.
But Live Tube appears to be a sound add-on and is certainly easy to use. It is powered by YouTube and therefore all content on Live Tube is 100% free and legal to use. The add-on takes advantages of the often-overlooked live streams that are available on YouTube. These can often be difficult to identify or seek out on the main YouTube add-on or their website. Live Tube makes it easy by offering links to all the best live streams that YouTube has to offer.
Simple to use, but no search facility yet
The Live Tube add-on is neatly designed with a simple menu which offers a range of subjects to choose from. It is an eclectic mix at the moment, including such things as Animals, Gaming, Mobile, News, Recent Mobile, Recent Live Streams, Sports, Technology, and Upcoming Live Streams. It is likely that this menu selection will evolve as the add-on beds in. At present, it does take a bit of exploring to find the content you are interested in, but it is still a lot easier than using YouTube.
One thing that Live Tube is lacking at the moment is a search facility, which is a shame. Hopefully, this is something that will be added in the near future. Within Live Tube, users will nonetheless find a great range of live streaming content including a number of official channels which have signed agreements with YouTube. It will also make specialty content and exclusive live events available on an ad-hoc basis as YouTube shows it.
Streaming Live Tube content on your TV
Most people prefer watching live stream content on a larger screen with TVs being the most popular means. Fortunately, there are a couple of different ways you can stream content from Kodi add-ons such as Live Tube on your TV.
Firstly, many devices offer HDMI connections which allow you to plug iPads and cell phones directly into your TV. These can work but connection and picture quality can be variable. A better option is to install Kodi onto an Amazon Fire TV Stick. These tiny devices are cheap to buy, plug directly into your TV, and offer a great picture quality. They are perfect for Kodi users and fast becoming the most device among Kodi users.
While Live Tube is a relative newcomer to the Kodi scene, it has already proven to be a popular pick–especially amongst users who favour live YouTube streams. Do you have a question about our installation instructions, the return of Fusion, or anything else? Leave us message in the comments below!
