ZappoTV Mobile Media Center is a comprehensive local and online media discovery, browsing and streaming app for Android and iOS-powered devices. Not only does the app allow you to view all photos and videos stored on your device and local network, but also stream content from numerous popular social media networks including Facebook, YouTube, SHOUTcast, Flickr, Picasa and lots more. What’s even better is that the app can be used to remotely stream media from your Android device to another, or an internet-enabled TV. After its successful debut in the iTunes App Store, ZappoTV has finally made its way to the Android Market.
Other prominent features of the app include seamless media playback on your device and TV, editable search history, customizable slideshow of locally stored photos, comprehensive playlist management to stream favorite content selected from any of the aforementioned sources, option to add multiple media rendering devices, clutter-free content browsing courtesy of a nifty media browser, minimal yet effective remote control, high speed remote media streaming to a wide array of devices including devices with AirPlay or DLNA Home Media Server support, channel-based video podcast exploration and lots more.
The only requirement for streaming content from your Android device to another is that both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You must first, of course, log in to the app using your ZappoTV account. New users can sign up for an account from within the app for free.
Once logged in, you’re taken to the app’s homescreen that comprises several tabs, namely Browse, Now Playing, MyZappoTV, Devices and Help.
All the local and online media sources are aggregated under the Browse tab. You will have to authorize the app to access your online media service accounts, of course. Even without providing your credentials, you can enjoy an unending stream of featured video podcasts, SHOUTcasts, publicly shared YouTube videos, as well as Picasa and Flickr photos etc.
To start streaming content to your TV or other supported devices, just hit the Devices tab, and select the required device. The Now Playing tab, apart from displaying the connected device and the media being played currently, also houses all media controls.
The MyZappoTV tab contains the app’s Settings, History (detailed log of the app’s usage) and all the content added to your Favorites. From the Settings screen, you can Sign Out of the app, select a default device to stream media to, and wipe your usage history.
Should you feel lost with any particular feature of the app, you can always tap the Help tab.
Like its iOS counterpart, the official ZappoTV client for Android is free to download.
