Cardapio is a main menu launcher for Ubuntu which can be used with the Unity launcher and can be used to look up items in a horizontal menu. You can also use it like the Ubuntu Dash and search for files and folders, provided Tracker application is installed. Cardapio can be a better alternative to the common Unity launcher options as it acts in someway like a horizontal form of the Ubuntu classic menu. It can also be used with docking application like Docky and Avant Window Navigator.
To use Cardapio with the Unity launcher, open a Terminal Window and enter the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cardapio-team/unstable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cardapio
Once done, download Cardapio, extract the tr.gz file and drag Cardapio file to the Unity Launcher.
This will allow you to use it with the Unity launcher. If you wish to enable file and folder searching capability, then install Tracker using the following command.
sudo apt-get install tracker
Cardapio is still in the development stage so you might face some functionality issues. You can also place the extracted file under ~/.local/share/applications/ to ensure that Cardapio does not disappear from the Unity launcher after the system reboots.
