How To Install Ubuntu 12.04 Scroll Bar In Ubuntu 11.10

A few days back, Andrea Cimitan provided a demo for some initial improvements to the Ubuntu’s overlay scroll bar that will be included in Ubuntu 12.04, Precise Pangolin. The new scroll bar comes with a number of changes, including subtle animations and timeouts, animated jump scrolling feature, a retracting tail when the thumb is hidden, and smart timeout to reduce visual clutter. Recently a PPA (Private Package Repository) was released for this new overlay scroll bar to install it on Ubuntu 11.10, Oneiric Ocelot.

Before you install the overlay scroll bar, check out the video below to preview the changes.

The Ubuntu 12.04 scrollbar can be installed in Ubuntu 11.10 by adding the below PPA to your Ubuntu sources. It must be kept in mind that this is just a preview release for Ubuntu 11.10 users only. The below PPA should only be installed by users who wish to preview the new changes. Since this scroll bar is in its early development stage, you may face functionality lags or bugs.

This is not the first time that Ubuntu scroll bars have been made available for preview. We earlier saw a similar PPA release for the Ubuntu 11.10 scroll bar when it was made available for Ubuntu 11.04.
