How to schedule a Google Meet meeting

Google Meet, like other online meeting tools has a scheduling feature. It allows you to create a link for a meeting that will be held in the future. The feature is available to all users, regardless if they use Google Meet for free or have a license, or if they sign in to a Google account or use it without an account.

Before we get into how you can schedule a Google Meet meeting, it is important to understand that Google Meet does scheduled meetings differently.

A Google Meet meeting is centered around a link. When you create end a meeting, it gives you the option to rejoin it even when everyone else has left. This is because the link to the meeting remains live/active and can be used to join the same meeting again.

To schedule a Google Meet meeting, follow these steps.

  1. Visit Google Meet in your browser.
  2. Click New Meeting.
  3. Select Create a Meeting for later.
  4. Copy the meeting information you see.
  5. Share the information when you’re ready to start the meeting or use it in an invitation email.

You can also schedule a Google Meet meeting directly in Google Calendar. This will add the meeting as an event to the calendar but you will have the option to add invitees in the Google Calendar event.

  3. Select Schedule in Google Calendar.
  4. The meeting link will be added automatically.
  5. Fill out other details for the meeting and add invitees.
  6. Click Save.

How to schedule a Google Meet meeting – iOS/Android

Scheduling a Google Meet meeting in the Google Meet iOS and Android apps is similar to the web experience.

  1. Open the Google Meet app.
  2. Tap New Meeting.
  3. Tap Get joining info to share.
  4. You will get a new meeting link that you can share with anyone you want to invite to a meeting.

To schedule a meeting in Google Calendar;

  1. Open the Google Meet app.
  2. Tap New Meeting.
  3. Select Schedule in Google Calendar (You must have Google Calendar installed on your phone).
  4. In the Google Calendar app, schedule the meeting and add invitees.

Google Meet’s meetings work with a link. It offers the simplest and quickest way to start a meeting and its meeting rooms remain active even after you’ve left the meeting. The link can be reused for up to a month which means it can be used for recurring meetings and as an open ‘virtual’ room.
