Microsoft Teams Error Code 503: Here’s How to Fix it

The 503 error in Microsoft Teams occurs when network restrictions or firewall rules prevent it from contacting the right servers. These restrictions may be temporary or they may be permanent. It depends on the network settings that have been applied by your system administrator. The 503 error generally occurs when the app is unable to access the URL/server it needs to access.

There are quite a few fixes for the Error 503. These are the ones we have found to be working:

1.  Contact Your Network or System Administrator

The network rules and firewall settings are the first places to start when you get the 503 error in Microsoft Teams. Let your network administrator know that the error is appearing and have them troubleshoot the rules that have been applied.

2. Login from MS Teams Web Version

If the error is being thrown at you from MS Teams desktop client, then it is advised to use the web version of the applications. The Microsoft Teams web version has the complete functionality of the desktop version and is easily accessible from any web browser. All you have to do is to go to the Microsoft Teams web app and login with the credentials provided. Once you are logged in, you can use and navigate your way inside the application as you did on the desktop app.

3. Network Services Issues and Troubleshooting

The error 503 can also occur due to the network services issues. The best way to find out if this is a network related issue is to log in to the MS Teams’ mobile client. If you are not able to login to the mobile client, then this is indeed a services issue. If otherwise, then you can try other methods to resolve this problem. 

4. Resetting Credentials Manager

Wiping the credentials manager is another method to fix the error 503 on Microsoft Teams. Here is a step by step guide on how to wipe and clear the credentials manager on Windows OS: 

  1. Press the Windows + R key simultaneously. 
  2. Type “control” in the search bar and press the enter key. 
  3. In the control panel,  navigate to the User Accounts 
  4. One in the UAC manager or User Accounts and Credentials manager, Click on the Credentials Manager. 
  5. Now Click on the Windows Credentials tab. 
  6. Now the list of all your saved credentials will open. In the list, click and delete anything that points towards Microsoft Teams. 
  7. Reboot your computer.

5. Reinstall Microsoft Teams

Although it may not matter much what the cause of this is (corrupt files, etc), a fresh install of Microsoft Teams has worked for many users facing this error. Here’s how you can uninstall and reinstall MS Teams.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Programs>Uninstall a program.
  3. Select Microsoft Teams and click the Uninstall button.
  4. Reboot your computer after MS Teams’ uninstallation is complete.
  5. Now download and install the latest version of the Microsoft Teams from the official site. Click here to download.
  6. After the installation is complete, log in with your credentials.

6. Check Microsoft Service Health Status

As Microsoft Error 503 is a service-related issue, it is advisable to check the service status. To check the service status, please click here. If the service is up and running, then you’ll have contact your system administrator to fix the access at their end,

7. Flush DNS Cache

To delete the Windows DNS cache;

  1. Open a Command Prompt window with administrative rights.
  2. In the Command Prompt window, enter the following and tap Enter
ipconfig /flushdns
