Not all USB ports on your laptop or desktop are the same. With newer systems, you’d be hard put to find a USB port that isn’t USB 3.0 however, you will still have a composite port which likely doubles as a charging port, and is what you should use to connect a USB 2.0 printer. The charging port on your system is the one that will charge a device even if your laptop is off, and will probably also support fast charging. Other USB ports will charge devices too but they may not support fast charging. It’s also possible that a USB port doesn’t output as much power as it should. It may have to do with a fault in the hardware, something wrong with your system’s internal wiring, your power supply unit, or maybe even the driver. If you suspect a port is under-performing, you can check power output of a USB port with an app called USBDeview.

Power Output Of USB Port
All the devices that are green are the ones that are currently connected to the system. This is where you’re going to run into a common problem with USB devices and USB ports; identification. It isn’t easy to identify which USB port is named what in the system. Likewise, not many USB devices except phones, can be identified by their names simply because they don’t have one.
Go through this list and try to identify the type of the product using the Description and Device Type column. What you want is anything that’s connected and is a USB composite device, or something similar.
Double-click the device that’s yours to view all its details in a comprehensive window. Here, look for the Power field which will tell you how much power the device is capable of withdrawing. This should match the specifications on the box your device came in. This section tells you how much power your device is withdrawing but you’re interested in figuring out the power output of the USB port this device is attached to.
Look for other connected USB devices. The port itself should be listed just above or below the device you’ve connected. Double-click it to view its power output. It’s possible that a port is capable of outputting more power than a device is capable of withdrawing. The port’s power output will tell you how much power the port can supply whereas the device’s power value will tell you how much power the device can withdraw from the port.
