Eevee is one of the most sought after Pokèmon in Pokèmon Go. It’s popular among players looking to level up quickly and those looking to dominate gym battles. If you visit one of your nearby gyms, you will likely see at least one evolved Eevee in each one. Eevees evolve into three of the most powerful Pokèmon in the Pokèdex; Vaporean, Flareon, And Jolteon. Even ff you’ve been playing Pokèmon go for just a while, you likely know there is a trick to controlling which Pokèmon, of the three, an Eevee will evolve into. It’s pretty simple and we’ve detailed it below.
To evolve an Eevee, you need 25 Eevee candies which are easy enough to get. Remember that if you transfer an Eevee to Professor Willow, you get back one Eevee candy. Catch the required number of Eevees and then get an appraisal for all of them. Choose the best one to evolve. If you don’t have a good Eevee, i.e. one with at least one stat that is 100%, consider deferring the evolution until you have a good one. Read the caveat at the end of this post to know why.
I caught a pretty good one today and had the right number of candies so it had to be evolved. The trick to controlling Eevee’s evolution is in its name. You can rename all your Pokèmon but with Eevee, the name can dictate which form it evolves into.
Rename your Eevee according to the following table;
The fire type is the dominant of the three.
And now all you have to do is evolve it.
This will get you the exact Pokèmon you want however, there is a very important caveat here. This only works with 100% certainty the first time you use it. You can use it to evolve Eevee into all three types by renaming it. It will work for all three types the first time. After that, it may or may not work. The chances of the evolution drop somewhat so, as stated earlier, be sure you have a perfect or near perfect Eevee before you use this trick.
For those wondering, this is not cheating and it will not get you banned. It’s an in-game Easter egg that Niantic has added.
