Root Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G & Install ClockworkMod Recovery [How To]

The Blaze 4G from T-Mobile gets rooted! Released in January 2012, so let’s just say it was about time. Thanks to the efforts of XDA-Developers forum member k0nane you can now root your device in no time at all through ODIN (more on that later) as is customary with most Samsung Android devices, but that’s not all. Renowned developer shabbypenguin has also managed to make the famous ClockworkMod Recovery available for the Blaze 4G as well, paving the way for users to flash custom ROMs and and kernels that will soon be made available. So if you had been using the Blaze 4G for a while now and had lost all hope concerning root access, you have it now!

Both rooting, and installation of ClockworkMod recovery will be relying on flashing files via ODIN . So no more talk, let’s get our hands dirty and get on with some good old rooting. Samsung Blaze 4G

  1. To begin, download the rooted kernel, ClockworkMod recovery, and the PIT file on your PC.
  2. Put your phone in Download mode. (Power of the device, and now hold down the Volume up, Volume down and power button.
  3. Start ODIN and make sure all other options except for Auto Reboot are unchecked.
  4. Click PDA and select the rooted kernel (TAR).
  5. Click PIT and select the PIT file you downloaded.
  6. Connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable and once the device shows up connected in ODIN, hit the Start button.
  7. Once the phone reboots, it should be rooted. Power it off and unplug it from the PC.
  8. Put the device in Download mode again, and re-run ODIN.
  9. Click PDA and select the ClockworkMod recovery (TAR).
  10. Click PIT and select the PIT file.
  11. Connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable and once the device shows up connected in ODIN, hit the Start button.
  12. Once the phone reboots, close ODIN and unplug the phone from your PC.

That is it! Your device should now be rooted, and have ClockworkMod recovery installed as well. For updates and queries, head over to the rooting thread | ClockworkMod recovery thread at XDA-Developers.


  1. my phone doesn’t pass from the Loading Screen… what happened, or what can I do? i did the process with odin 1.85

  2. Your lame article bricked my phone. I am not a noob who is crying here by the way.

    You put a wrong link to the Odin which actually brings to the another pit file. And so I had to search and download it myself. Only later I found that I had to download 1.85 version of Odin made by k0nane instead of 3-rd one.

    And ALL other I did in the proper way (and by the way your instruction SUCKS. It says to make sure that only 1 box is checked and then pick a pit file while anytime you pick pit the box “repartition” is checking in which I found intime). Brand new phone…. 1 mistake…. does not want to recover.
