How to use a Zoom meeting code to join a meeting

A Zoom meeting invite is normally sent as a link. In some cases, the invite comes as a calendar event that you can import or add directly to a calendar app or service like Google Calendar.

A Zoom meeting link is long and it isn’t user friendly i.e, no one can remember it and it is too long to type without error or without taking a lot of time. Clicking on the link is really the easiest way to use it. If using a link isn’t an option, Zoom has something called meetings codes, or a meeting ID that can be used to join a meeting instead.

Use Zoom meeting code

Every meeting that is created in Zoom, whether it is an ad-hoc meeting or a scheduled meeting, has its own code. No two meetings will have the same code (Zoom personal meeting IDs can only be used for one meeting at a time) and this code can be used to join the meeting.

The code is easy to remember since it is a 10 digit number. You can get the code from the meeting host however, when you use the code to join the meeting, you will have to manually enter the password for the meeting. Again, ask the host for the password.

Join with Zoom meeting code – Web

To join a Zoom meeting with the code from the Zoom web app, follow these steps.

1. Visit Zoom. 
2. Click Join a meeting at the top right.
3. Enter the meeting code or Meeting ID.
4. Click Join.
5. Enter the passcode when prompted.
6. Wait for the host to allow you in.

Join with Zoom meeting code – Desktop

To join a Zoom meeting with the meeting code on the desktop apps (Windows or macOS), follow these steps.

1. Open Zoom.
2. Click Join on the Home tab.
3. Enter the meeting code or the meeting ID.
4. Click Join.
5. Enter the passcode when prompted to.
6. Wait for the host to allow you to enter the meeting.

Join with Zoom meeting code – iOS/Android

To use a Zoom meeting code on the iOS or Android apps, follow the steps below.

1. Open the Zoom app on your phone.
2. Tap Join at the top of the Meet & Chat tab.
3. Enter the meeting code or meeting ID.
4. Tap Join.
5. Enter the passcode when prompted to.

Join with Zoom meeting code – Phone/dial-in

The meeting code can be used to dial in to a Zoom meeting. Follow these steps. 

1. Open the Dialer or Phone app on your phone.
2. Dial the meeting number. You can ask the Host for the number, check the invite, or check this list. 
3. Enter the Meeting code or Meeting ID when the automated machine asks and end with the Pound or hash symbol.
4. Enter the passcode or password when prompted and press the pound or hash button.
5. Wait for the host to allow you to join the meeting.

Conclusion

The meeting code is easy to remember and if you have an invite to a Zoom meeting, the code is stated in it. It is up to you to use either the link in the invite or the code to join a meeting. The only shortcoming the code has is that it requires users to manually enter the passcode.
