Fresh Paint App Keeps Crashing in Windows 10 (FIXED)

Fresh Paint is a stand-alone app from Microsoft for digital painting. You can use it on a desktop/laptop system that’s running Windows 10, and you can use it on a touch-screen device such as a two-in-one laptop, or a Surface tablet. This app has support for a stylus and if you’re using a stylus, you will find that Fresh Paint also has pressure support for it.

FIX: Fresh Paint app keeps crashing

Fresh Paint is a popular painting tool on the Windows 10 platform and it’s one the few rare apps that are good and free to use. If you’ve installed the app and it keeps crashing, try the fixes below.

1. Uninstall and reinstall Fresh Paint

Microsoft Store apps occasionally run into problems where they refuse to run, crash, or are in a perpetual state of being updated. The easiest solution to these problems is to uninstall and reinstall the app.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Select the Apps & Features tab.
  4. Select Fresh Paint from the list of apps and click Uninstall.
  5. Allow the app to uninstall and install it again.

2. Run Microsoft Store app troubleshooter

Problems with Microsoft Store apps are somewhat common which is why Windows 10 come with a built-in troubleshooter for these apps. Run it and will be able to solve whatever problem Fresh Paint is encountering.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Update & Security.
  3. Select the Troubleshoot tab.
  4. Scroll down and click Additional troubleshooters.
  5. Select the Windows Store apps troubleshooter and run it.
  6. Apply all fixes that it recommends.
  7. Restart the system and open Fresh Paint.

3. Reset Microsoft Store

If there is a problem with the Microsoft Store app, or any of the underlying services that it uses, an app from the store may not work. The simplest fix is to reset the Microsoft Store app.

  1. Open the run box with the Win+R keyboard shortcut.
  2. Enter this command wsreset and tap Enter.
  3. A command prompt window will open and close. When the Microsoft Store opens, the app has been reset.
  4. Open Fresh Paint.

4. Install pending Windows 10 updates

Windows 10 updates, particularly security and feature updates will prevent some apps from working. Make sure you do not have any pending updates.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Update and Security.
  3. Select the Windows Update tab.
  4. Click Check for updates.
  5. Download and install updates that are available.
  6. Restart the system (even if the updates do not need a restart to install).

Conclusion

Fresh Paint isn’t the only Windows Store app that runs into this sort of problem. Lots of other Windows Store apps, and occasionally even stock Windows 10 apps will have trouble. They’re fixed normally by running the troubleshooter or reinstalling the app.
