(SOLVED) Printer Only Printing Half Page on Windows 10

Printers are one of the rare hardware devices that connect over a USB port but that are incredibly difficult to use at times. Once you run into a problem with your printer, you may end up dedicating hours trying to fix it.

Printer Only Printing Half Page

Fix Printer only prints half the page

If you’re trying to print a document and your printer is only printing half a page, there may be several reasons and they may not all be related to the printer.

First, try to print a test page. Check your printer’s manual to see how it prints a test page. Some printers have a dedicated button or an option on the printer’s on-device control panel. If the test page is printing fine, try the fixes below.

If the print quality is compromised i.e., there may not be enough ink to print everything, check the ink levels in the cartridges and refill them if needed.

1. Check printer configurations

The printer may be configured to print on a smaller paper while the document has been created on a larger paper. Make sure you know the paper size that you’ve fed into the printer

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Hardware and sound>Devices and printers.
  3. Right-click the printer and select Printer preferences from the context menu.
  4. Go to the Original Size and Output size dropdowns.
  5. Select the page size that you’ve fed into the printer in both dropdowns.
  6. Click Apply and try printing again.

2. Check page size of document

Make sure the page size for the document matches the size of the paper that is being fed into the printer. The method for changing the page size of document will differ based on the app that it is open in and that you’re printing from.

In Microsoft Word;

  1. Open the document.
  2. Go to the Layout tab.
  3. Open the Size dropdown and select the correct size.
  4. Try printing the document.

3. Uninstall and reinstall printer

The printer may not have calibrated correctly when you installed it or the calibration may have been corrupted. The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall the printer and install it again.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Devices.
  3. Select the Printers and scanners tab.
  4. Select your printer and click Remove device
  5. Disconnect the printer and restart the system.
  6. Connect the printer again and it will install automatically.
  7. Try printing the document.

4. Change the app

The problem may be with the app that you’re trying to print from. Try changing it. Alternatively, try saving the document as a PDF and then printing it.

Conclusion

The page that you select for the printer and the size that it’s configured to print on from the app should always match. If it doesn’t your prints will come out wrong. If you cannot change the size of the paper a document has been created for e.g., an envelope or brochure, change the size that the printer is configured to print on.
