How do I get Minecoins in Minecraft?

Games make money in one of two ways; the initial purchase of the game if it’s a paid title, and through the sale of in-game items. Exceptionally popular games may also sell physical items i.e., game merchandise though the purchase likely goes through an online store that is not built into the game.

Games that sell in-game items; maps, skins, ammo, weapons, etc do so using their own in-game currency. In Minecraft, the in-game currency is called Minecoins. 

Minecoins, like most in-game currencies, are bought with real money. They cannot be earned within the game. They can be used to buy items in the Minecraft Marketplace and have no exchange value outside it i.e., a minecoin cannot be used to buy items in any other marketplace. 

How to get Minecoins in Minecraft

If you want to buy something in the Minecraft Marketplace, you will have to first buy Minecoins. Minecoins can be bought directly from within the game. All versions of Minecraft (all platforms) allow you to buy Minecoins and they sync with your user profile.

To buy Minecoins in Minecraft, follow these steps.

1. Open Minecraft.
2. Go to the Marketplace.
3. At the top right, click on plus button next to the coin icon.

4. Select one of the minecoin bundles.
5. Enter your payment information. 
6. Once the payment is complete, the minecoins will be added to your account.
7. You can view your minecoin balance at the top right next to the plus button that you clicked.

How to use Minecoins

Once minecoins have been purchased and added to your account, you can start buying items in the Minecraft Marketplace. 

1.  Open Minecraft.
2. Go to the Marketplace.
3. Select an item you want to buy.
4. Click the price that’s listed in Minecoins to complete the purchase.
5. The item will be added to your inventory and you can download it.

Conclusion

The Minecraft Marketplace allows users to purchase items with currency directly. You don’t necessarily have to buy Minecoins first. When you go the Marketplace, the price of an item is given in Minecoins and in your local currency. If you click the local currency option, you can pay the amount directly without first buying minecoins. The currency option doesn’t make an item cheaper or more expensive to buy. It does however mean that you do not have to buy a minecoin bundle which may have more coins than you actually need. Instead, you can pay for just the item and nothing extra.
