How to install Game bar widgets on Windows 10

The Game Bar is a stock Windows 10 feature that allows users to stream gameplay and keep an eye on the system’s vitals through helpful widgets. Out of the box, the Game Bar has widgets for monitoring the GPU and CPU usage, taking screenshots, accessing the Xbox gallery, and finding groups on Xbox to play with.

Game bar widgets

Some Game bar widgets come installed out of the box but there are third-party widgets that you can install. At present, there are very few third-party widgets that you can install and the widget store is still in beta.

  1. Tap the Win+G keyboard shortcut to open the Game bar.
  2. Click the menu button.
  3. Select ‘Widget Store (Beta)’ from the menu.

  2. Select a widget to view what it does, and click Install when you’re ready to install it.
  3. Once the widget has been installed, open the Game Bar (Win+G).
  4. Click the menu button.
  5. The newly installed widget will appear in the menu. Select it to open it.

Hiding stock widgets

The stock widgets that come installed with the Game Bar cannot be removed. If they appear on your screen when you open the Game Bar, you can hide them so that they only appear in the menu.

  1. Tap the Win+G keyboard shortcut to open the Game bar.
  2. Click the cross/close button at the top right of a widget to close it.
  3. If the widget is pinned, click the pin button to unpin it, and then close it.
  4. To hide a widget from the Game bar, click the menu button.
  5. Click the star button next to a widget and it will no longer appear on the bar.

The Game Bar is somewhat popular with Windows 10 users. It may not yet be the go-to tool for streaming gameplay from the desktop but it is still used. The widgets for it are still modest in number but the store itself is still in beta so it’s to be expected. You can also install widgets from the Microsoft Store though it will still list the same ones you see in the widget store.
