If you’re an avid Firefox user, you must have created and tweaked multiple profiles using default Profile Manager. As of now, Firefox 4 (which is still in beta phase) comes without a profile manager and one for earlier versions doesn’t offer options to organize multiple profiles, as one can only create, delete or rename existing profiles. Another big downside is that it requires user to follow a lengthy procedure for backing up and restoring profiles. ProfileManager is a 3rd party portable application developed by JGriffin to help user manage multiple profiles of different installed Firefox versions with ease. The application provides a simple way to backup and restore Firefox profiles. According to the developer, since Firefox 4 users wont have any profile manager, this application would make managing profiles easy for all future releases.
Main interface displays all the profiles which you’ve been managing either for one or two versions. For instance, if you’re using both Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4 on your system, it’s an ability to manage profiles of both versions in more or less similar fashion.
Coming back to features it offer, you can switch between multiple installed versions, enable temporary profile, and run Firefox in offline mode. From toolbar, profiles can be created, deleted and copied with a different name.
From Backup menu, you can quickly create backup of selected profile and restore a profile on a new system.
It is further possible to add and delete Firefox versions which are being used. Click Manage Firefox versions to change default version, add a new version or to delete one from the list.
The application is in beta phase, you may encounter some bugs. During testing, we found it to be working without any problems. It runs on Windows XP/Vista/7, requiring C++ Redistributable package to be installed already. Testing was done on Windows 7 x64 system.
