Enable Apple Maps’ Turn-By-Turn Navigation In Unsupported Countries

While Google Maps is still far superior to Apple Maps in pretty much every way, there are still plenty of users out there who will prefer Apple’s solution to Google’s because of the former’s tighter integration with iOS. Apple Maps as an app is faster and arguably prettier than Google Maps, and is opened automatically when you tap navigation links in other apps including Siri, Messages and Mail, among others. If you are one of those users, and you live in a country where Apple Maps does not offer navigation, check out MapsAllCountries – a new tweak available now on Cydia that enables turn-by-turn directions in the officially unsupported countries.

Apple Maps offers turn-by-turn directions all over the world, but for a real-time GPS-like navigation experience, you still need to be in certain supported countries like USA, Thailand, Australia, most countries in Europe, Russia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc. You can check out the full list of supported countries in the image placed below.

Developed by Rafael Costa, MapsAllCountries is a simple, one trick pony of a tweak that removes one of the many limitations of Apple Maps. After installing the tweak, you can get real-time turn by turn directions all over the world – it is as simple as that. There are no settings to change, no app icons added – just install-and-forget functionality. Though do make sure to restart Springboard (or ‘respring’, as it is called) after installing it.

You will, of course, need a jailbroken iOS device to get this to work. MapsAllCountries works with both iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices. For help with jailbreaking, see how to jailbreak iOS 7 with evasi0n 7 and how to jailbreak OS 6 with evasi0n.

We tested the tweak on a jailbroken iPhone 5 running iOS 7. After installing the tweak, we were able to get turn by turn directions in Pakistan, which is currently an unsupported country. It does not affect us though, since we are fans of Google Maps, and because Apple Maps is missing some pretty big parts of Pakistan, even inside some of the biggest cities in the country.

MapsAllCountries is available for free from Cydia under BigBoss repo.

Has Apple Maps become good enough to replace Google Maps for you in your country, and did you find the MapsAllCountries tweak useful? Be sure to let us know by leaving your thoughts in the comments section below.
