Enable 720p Playback & Full Screen Recording on Motorola Defy

image

If you’re a Motorola Defy owner yearning for 720p HD video playback, full-screen 480 x 854 pixel video recording or both, we have just the right hack to make your wish come true, thanks toXDA Developer -={antibyte}=-. Read on for details and complete instructions.

Like many other Android devices, Motorola Defy has been lacking both these features despite coming equipped with a rather decent 3.7” screen and a 5 megapixel camera. With this hack, you can now record videos of upto 480×854 pixels, which is the full resolution of the device.

Requirements:

  • A rooted Motorola Defy with a custom recovery. In case yours isn’t rooted yet, check out our video guide on how to root Motorola Defy and install a custom recovery to it.
  • This is for Android 2.2+ FroYo only so if your phone is still running Eclair , please see  how to install 1GHz  rooted Android 2.2 FroYo on Motorola Defy and get FroYo installed on your phone first.
  • The required file to enable these features.

Procedure:

  1. Place the above mentioned zip file on the SD card.
  2. Power down your phone.
  3. Press the Volume-Down button, keep it held, press the power button and hold it until the phone boots into recovery.
  4. Perform a Nandroid backup of your phone, just to be on the safe side.
  5. Install the update via recovery after wiping cache and Dalvik cache. There is no need to wipe data.
  6. Reboot your phone and you’re done!

Now to see what it’s all about:

  • Go to Camera App and you should be able to start recording full screen video.
  • Download any 720p video from youtube and watch it smoothly on your Motorola Defy.
There you have it – enjoy!

  2. I have recently ordered this phone, and couldn’t be more excited! The resolution looks amazing! The first thing I will be installing is the DISH Network Remote access App! I have access to more than 200 channels in HD streamed LIVE to my android phone! As an employee for DISH, I know that DirecTV does not have this ability. With as many this much access to HD, I know this phone is going to be the perfect match.
